Pen-G dose for 10 lb. lamb?

Greetings,

I have a lamb with watery eyes and nose, with a drawn up look about it. I have Pen-G on hand, as well as LA 200. What would be the Pen-G dose for a 10 lb. lamb? I am also open to other suggestions.

For Pen, if its a 3,000IU, its 1ml/100#, If the dosage 15,000-30,000IU its 5-10ml/100#

LA200 is 4.5ml/100#

Did you happen to get the lambs temp? For me lambs encountering a mild upper respiratory challenge but that are normal temp and eating, I don't treat. I mark them and watch them closely. I avoid tetracycline in juveniles if I can.

Aqueous Pen G for injection comes in a concentration of 300,000 IU per ML. The dose in sheep is 3000 IU per LB IM once daily for four to seven days.

Thanks, Mark. I'll bookmark that for later. It turned out to be entropian (sp?). Dr. E injected 1.5 ml Pen-g in the tissue below each eye to create a bubble which forced the eyes open. Pretty cool how that works, though I wouldn't trust my aim to do it myself. The lamb suffered substantial cornea damage in the meantime. Wish I would have diagnosed it sooner.

Don't give up, the cornea can undergo amazing repair. You should be using antibiotic drops or ointment for a week or so. In a pinch, a toothpick with superglue applied to it placed on the lid and rolled out works well too. You have to make sure the lid is dry.

The lamb appears to be able to see out of the eyes. It is following the ewe around the pasture and nursing well. Much less "hunched up" than as before. Mark, I have the antibiotic ointment at hand and will begin using it. Thanks for the tip re the toothpick repair.
