Introducing new sheep to current LGDs

Postby Jenn » Wed Jun 30, 2010 11:11 pm

Hi All,

I'm still new to LGDs. Have 50 ewe lambs arriving in 2 months. I don't think either of my LGDs will have any problems accepting new charges, but what are some things I should be doing to make this a smooth transition? Searched the archives and didn't see anything.

thanks,

Jenn

if your lgd is bonded ok with the existing sheep then you should have no problems - the dog may pay a bit of attentation getting the new scents but apart from that just keep an eye on the sheep as they may not be used to having a dog around -

Great, thanks. These guys will be used to LGDs and Border Collies. I'm done buying stock that aren't used to both (or at least some breed of herding dog too).
