Hey folks, newbie here. I just had the chance to digest this discussion and first I have to say thank you for informing me that this is going on and also for the really insightful comments. In full disclosure, I'm way wet behind the ears with issues about raising livestock on range and using LGDs, but know my way with dogs and have some perspective on their use for protection of stock. Is there still time to chime in on this?

I have no idea what their timeline is, but nothing happens too fast at ASI, I'd go ahead and send your comments in.

I hope I have not stepped over the line here, but I know all the people involved in this and was at the meeting discussion in Nashville. I think this is an important enough issue that they need to be aware of ALL the good discussion this group has had. This is the e-mail I sent.

Mary,

While I have some major objections to the proposed certification, and think is should be clear it is recommended only for those on Federal land. The provisions are impossible for the rest of us. I am sending you a link to a discussion group of small farmers with LGD's. Several have sent in comments, but it should give you a good idea of the feelings of your major membership. You know that 2/3 of sheep producers are small farms, and only a minority of your membership graze federal lands. I know their numbers of sheep are large, and necessary, but don't alienate your other members. We can't afford to lose membership over this issue, so listen closely to their input.

John,
You can go by whatever numbers you like, I choose to go by reported statistics. Per capita consumption means just that...it does not include export numbers.
This current link shows the same numbers as the previous one.http://www.dairyaustralia.com.au/Our-Da ... stics.aspx
Believe what you like.
