Spammers

So just a few minutes ago I allowed registrations long enough to set up one account (about three minutes) and during that time two spammers registered for accounts, and one of them posted. It's bad and getting worse.

If it continues like that, I will have to consider a change in software. When I have looked into this in the past, I have not been able to find one that would preserve existing user accounts and messages. Are there any geeks out there who can help me with this? I would love to not have to set up everyone's account for them, but I also don't want a lot of porno and (most curiously lately) vinyl siding ads posted.

Is a Java version of phpBB that I have used in the past. All users, messages, etc. are converted over to jForum from phpBB.

Migration is a snap.

jForum is a more secure solution allowing for better control of unwanted users and messages.

Within phpBB you can install some mods that will make it harder for spammers. Have you installed these on the current system?
